Mixing 512MB Ram 2700 stick with a 256MB 3200 stick? Will it screw things up?

My mobo was orignally designed to run 2700 Ram I believe, and I bought a 512 stick from newegg. Although,Future games coming out are really rescource hungry, demanding anywhere from 512-1 gig of ram (Farcry...Doom3). I have a 256MB stick in my old comp, and I believe its a 3200 stick. If I throw it in my new computer with the 512 2700 stick, will I Be seeing hiccups, hangs, and whatnot? Will it ruin some of my performance. Thanks for the reply.

You are not to mix ram that is of different speeds. You can put different sizes
or ram, but it should be the same speed rating. Check the manufacturer of
your motherboard for the specs.

I agree with Chinaman - in my experience it's far better to use 2 sticks of identical memory rather than to mix and match them. Even if they did work together, obviously it would be running at the slower speed, and you couldn't take advantage of the faster speed on the 3200 stick, as your system isn't designed to handle it.

To be honest, if your budget can afford it I think the best thing to do is just buy another 512Mg 2700 stick -- J.W.
