Missing ppp0 interface on 2.6.7 kernel
Hi. I just bought an Intel 536ep modem. Now the drivers compiled fine and I can even dial with my modem, but as soon as it connects with the ISP, pppd dies and says could not link or bind (I don't exactly remember) tty to ppp.
I've narrowed the problem down to a missing ppp0 interface. Can anyone help me?

it is possible that you miss the module file

cd /lib/modules
find . -print | grep ppp

do you see any file that can contain the module with the command above?

I'll check and let you know. But what do I do, if I am indeed missing it?

If it is missing you can install it from your distribution or look for it on the internet.

But if you have the source for your kernel you just build it, (probably there is an
option to install the source for your distribution )

In case you have the module the output of 'lsmod' as root can ben helpful

Ok, I just realised what you wanna know. The thing is, I compiled PPP async support directly into my kernel, so that's not an issue. Kppp also tells me that the kernel supports PPP fine. Ok, now here's the actual error I get:
Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument. Can anyone tell me what this means?

I don't know much about this pppd stuff but when you type
man pppd you see a section 'DIAGNOSTICS'
(or use man:pppd or man://pppd in konqueror)

so with that logfile you might discover a problem

Ok, I'll check it out.
