Missing Block Device /dev/hdc1 !?!
Okay, basically, I have the entire OS installed on a SCSI hard drive /dev/sda. Then I setup the /home on an IDE hard drive /dev/hdc. In the /dev folder, I have: sda sda1 sda2 sda5 and hdc. There is NO hdc1 anywhere. I don't know if it is the kernel; I'm using 2.6.12, I'm not sure if that even supports my setup. PCLinuxOS doesn't list newer kernels. I can't even get my smp-kernels to boot, so I can't test them yet.
-I have followed the /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/disc link, it only goes to hdc. -And no, I don't want to just use one hard drive. This is an old computer with a 9Gig scuzzy and a 6Gig ide. + Also, if anyone knows any PCLinuxOS repos for newer kernels. Mainly, something like 2.6.15-smp or newer, that would be appreciated. Thanks |
2.6.16 plus is
here http://mirrors.lastdot.org:1280/pclo.../2004/RPMS.93/ (2) have a read of /var/log/dmesg and messages and syslog and see if any mention of hdc is made post those lines of output pls also what is the ouput of your /etc/fstab file 3) also what fs types are on your drives and how did you format and partition the hdc drive? eg did you pcL or a live cd and name of executable etc 4) boot up a live cd such as knoppix and let it try and hw detect....if it fails i suggest you redo the partition and format..... you probably guess I am thinking your partition table is not quite right so also mention what is the bios boot drive order pls |
Thanks, all it needed was a new kernel. 2.6.12 doesn't support my computers configuration. I wasn't sure where to look for repos, so thanks for that as well. Elive wasn't that difficult. I finally got a smp kernel to finish booting also.
I would have replied sooner; however, it took a while to download the kernel in synaptic. Thanks again...:D |
