Misbehaving USB audio adaptor seems to have interfered with other devices on the same hub

When the audio chip in my laptop started misbehaving I bought a generic USB audio adaptor (56¢, free shipping!, in 2009). Recently it started misbehaving, so I took it out, and the occasional problems I have had with other USB devices on the same hub have stopped.

Maybe a question of too much power from the same hub?

How long did you expect it to function for(?) - I'd say it is likely 'past its sell by date' by now - go buy a replacement.

The hub has a separate power supply.

Most of the rest of the computer works. I wasn't complaining but informing: a misbehaving USB device can interfere with the function of other devices on the same hub. It hadn't occurred to me.

I bought it because the built-in stopped having a mixer. It still doesn't, but now mplayer detects that and inserts a volume filter that does the job, so I don't need one.
