minimum requirement to install basic redhat 8.0

What is the minimum system requirement to install a basic text mode redhat8.0?

I got a few old 386 system with less than 500MB GB, don't know how much SIMM memory, and a 66MHZ and another 133MHZ. I would like to install a basic text mode to get to the internet for the kids.

I think RH's base these days is technically a 386, but I wouldn't try it, they still compile i386 so it'll go on there, but it'll probably choke on something.

The 66mhz 486 DX should be fine, as well as the 133, but RH's minimum RAM for a text install is 16mb.

Vectorlinux or peanut will run alright on the older kit, especially as they still come with an XFree from the 3.3.x series, so hence, an X that might run at all worth a dink on less than 32Mb of RAM.

Cheers,

actually, the minimum requirement for a text install is 64MB and pentium class machine. the installer will complain evenif u have 32 MB (that is the case for RHL 8.0).

get an older version (maybe 6.2 or 7.1) or another distro (try slackware)

i haven't tried installing on a 386 so i'd be glad if u'll post your experience here.

hth.
