Midi devices


Can anyone tell just exactly what is a midi device?
I can't get kmid to play, although kmidi will play.

Usuallythe device used is /dev/sequencer

midi and chmod

What is wrong?
I do
chmod 777 /dev/sequencer, but when I look, it only has rw for user.
I downloaded a new kernel, maybe that#s the problem?
