I have an optical USB mouse connected to /dev/input/mouse1. It is working very good, together with my built-in mouse pad in my laptop. The only problem is that I can't use the scrolling-wheel (this wheel between the 2 buttons, not the wheel inside wheel-mice... this one os optical). How can I configure my linux (2.6.10) to enable it? Does it have something to do with /etc/udev/rules.d/udev.rules? maybe some driver?
The mouse's "official" name is: "Wheel Mouse Optical USB and PS2 Compatible"... I know it is microsoftic but that's what i have...
I added the lines, saved xorg.conf, logged out and even rebooted, but it didn't help
I actually forgot to say that my "middle button" - the wheel, did WORK, but did not SCROLL. However, when I press it it does certain things, depends on the application... copies text, pastes text, opens links.... etc...
Have you tried running "/etc/sbin/mouseconfig"? (You're running Slackware 10.1, right?) I assume your "Option Protocol" is "IMPS/2"? It's been quite a while since I set my system up, but I think there might also be a program called "mousewheel" you need to run (I can't remember if that's necessary or not for Slack 10.1)
Well, before I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.10 I had 2.4.29, and used the "USB connected mouse" option. It worked the same as now, and the built-in mouse didn't work at all. When I upgraded my kernel, the built-in mouse (which is actually ps2...) started to work
When I run mouseconfig I need to select a mouse from a list... I have chosen the "USB connected mouse" again, and the problem remains...
If I select PS2 the external microsoftic mouse gets disabled, and I can only use the built-in one...
Hopefully someone else can be of more assistance... have you looked up "imwheel"? I'm almost positive I had/have to run that for the wheel to work... I'll look around my system some more to be sure... If you can get the mouse to actually be recognized, and get the wheel to act as a button, I'm positive you're almost there...
