Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse and Mandrake 8.2 Solution

Using Mandrake 8.2, I have gotten my wireless Intelimouse Explorer going!
The problem I was experiencing was that the wireless mouse would only scroll up and down, but not left to right, as others have mentioned.

The solution is to edit the /etc/modules file by including the hid module.
Mine now looks like this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line. Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.

scsi_hostadapter
hid
-----------------------------------------------------------------

(All you do is edit the file and add hid)
My XF86Config-4 script looks like this (in the "inputdevice" section)

------------------------------------------------------------------
Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/usbmouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

EndSection
---------------------------------------------------------------------

- there might be better refinements that I can make to the XF86Config-4 script, but it seems to be working okay.
(oh yeah, XF86Config-4 is located at /etc/X11/XF86Config-4)
I used Midnight Commander to edit the script - just type
mc
- when you are at the commandline, and it will be pretty intuitive from there.
