Thumbs down Microsoft Mouse Locks Up

Hi,

I am have recently installed Fedora Core 2 on a dual boot machine with WinXP. When I am using FC2 my Microsoft USB Intellimouse will frequently stop responding. The machine doesn't crash as I can still use the keyboard to write at the terminal and switch virtual desktops. When I try to exit to a login shell using Ctrl-Alt F2 the machine does crash and I have to press reset.

I am not 100% sure what is causing this problem, but it seems to occur most frequently when loading programs with X interface e.g. the last time it happened was upon loading usbview. I have also noticed it more than once when I use the X inteface for the device/hardware manager.

Anyhelp /suggestions would be greatly appreciated

TIA

Iain

Is this an optical mouse?

If so, when this problem occurs does the light from the mouse stop? I had an experince on one of my dual boot machinces where I wouold seem to lose power from my USB port, effectivly killing my mouse. In my case I was lucky enough that the problem was resolved by simply using a diffrent USB port that did not seem to experince the problem.

If you do appear to lose power to your mouse, try another port if you have that option, otherwise you might want to try a PS2 mouse.

Good luck

Thanks for that. It is an optical mouse. Next time I experience the problem I will check the light on the mouse...
