Microsoft Intellimouse Scroll Wheel

im trying to get my microsoft intellimouse going but am running into some serious difficulties. im running X.org 7.1 with gnome 2.16 and am using evdev. my problem is that whenever im moving the mouse, the scroll wheel does not register. i opened up xev and noticed that this is ONLY true of the scroll wheel. the 2 side buttons, the middle buttons and even the tilting of the scroll wheel register in xev while im moving the mouse, however the scrolling does not. this is bugging me to no end! i have to hold my hand perfectly still to scroll. the other problem is the speed of the scroll. it is very slow and almost unusable with the speed it works at now. here is the revalavent xorg.conf

Code:

Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "evdev"
    #Option "Protocol" "Auto"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/event1"
p.s. when i plug in my friends logitech, with the exact same settings, the scroll wheel works no matter what, moving or stationary. Also, i have tried Knoppix and Gentoo LiveCD and it is the same behavior.

Question

I have this same mouse at home (shhh...don't tell anyone ) but I don't recall ever experiencing what you're describing.

I will try to look this up when I get home. Unfortunately, that may not be for a couple of days.

In the meantime, this may be a good place to start: Google Linux - Microsoft intellimouse scroll wheel
