Unhappy Microphone sessions produce buzzing sound

Maybe this is the wrong section to be posting on, it involves a microphone, so I thought this would be appropriate. Anyways, whenever I try to initiate a conversation or just a test, using my microphone, my speakers produce a rather annoying buzzing sound, and when I try to listen to the play back if I record a sound, all I hear is that buzzing. I've also tried to record something with the mic unplugged, and sure enough I still get the buzzing sound, so I'm willing to say this is a software problem. So well, I'm not really sure how to fix this or whats going on, so if you guys could help me out again, that would be great. until then, ttyl :P.

P.S: This problem is on Gentoo Linux 2.6.11 kernel.

Do have 'playback' for the microphone enabled? That is, if you speak into the mic, then you hear it out of the speaker. Try disabling that.

Ok. So I've swapped speakers and scanned the net for more information, and I've still came up with nothing,
I've also tryed this microphone on Windows XP, and it seems to work fine there, so as I've predicted, this is a software issue.. I just wish I could figure out which piece of the software is causing the buzzing. Please help me out guys .
