Memtest86 v.165 help..?
Hi guys, its been exactly one week or 169 hours since I started the Memtest and its still running. There is not a single indication of progress or estimated completion. What's more this is only for 256 MB Kingston module. This is on a Pentium III 800 MHz Dell Dimension desktop.
I have yet to test another individually. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what's going on. I tried the same test on similar sized module SODIMM on my Dell Latitude Pentium III 650 and it only took 24 hours...!!! I am baffled and bewildred in one go... |

Well, I abandoned it. I just remember the first time I attempted to install XBUNTU using my old memory it found some address problem. So when I bought new modules I thought it is better to test while I still have warranty. Some one from this forum said windows tolerate bad memory address and linux does not.
But I am not going to wait weeks for this to finish. Maybe you can help me with another problem. I am trying to get the bios to boot into CD but even when i set first boot device as ATAPI CDROM it wants to boot in floppy... Its Dell Dimension L800r BIOS version A14 |

The test can be terminated at any time. Several pattern options are used to test the memory, not just address schemes. I like to run 'memtest86' overnight, generally that will show any problems with the memory. Sometimes I will change the memory position to see if the problem can be scheme specific. Quote:
As for your BIOS boot problem, try the sbootmgr. |
