MDK 8.2 and Startup Fail messages

I just installed Mandrake Linux 8.2 on a new machine I built. It's an AMD Athlon XP 2100, 512MB DDR RAM, GeForce2 MX 400 64MB AGP, SoundBlaster Live! 5.1, AD75 Motherboard with KT333 chipset, 60 GB Maxtor Hard Drive.

The problem is that when I installed the system, I had a second hard drive in the IDE line. I subsequently removed it, because it was my old Linux installation that I was just transfering my /home partition stuff from. Now I've got my system up and all works fine, except for 2 things;

1) When I power up, I get error messages as the system looks for the swap partition that was on the old drive (the new drive also has a swap partition that is mounted on boot). It also reports a fail when trying to mount native filesystems (I'd assume the other missing partitions). How do I get it to stop looking for this old hard drive and get it to just let me know if some temporary hard drive has been detected???

2) The motherboard uses Advanced Power Management. When I shutdown, I get errors in the killall function (I'd assume going back to the missing partitions it wants to unmount) and I cannot turn the system off by pressing the power button. How can I get the system to shut off by using the power button (right now I have to hold both the reset and power buttons until reset kicks in and the system has detected the power button has been pushed)???

Can anyone help???
