MDK 2005LE & Freecom DVB-T USB Stick

Hi,

Does anyone know how to get a Freecom USB -T USB stick working under mandrake 2005 LE at all?

I've looked at http://www.linuxtv.org/ and at this thread - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/366582 but I am not really sure where to start.

Does anyone know if the new 2006 Mandriva will have support for this USB Device ?

The linuxtv wiki ( http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB_USB ) gives hope that the freecom usb device might be supported, but I'm not sure how to go from here.

Do I have to recompile the kernel? Or is there a much simpler way by using RPMs at all? In /lib/modules/ with my mandrake install I cannot find any mention of any dvb modules or drivers at all.

I have tried compiling a kernel from kernel.org before (not for this device, but I think back around MDK 10.0) and it did not work with mandrake very well at all :( . Mandrake seem to use "their own" kernel unfortunatly.

Would a different distro of linux produce better results -- would it be worth waiting for a new version of slackware, for example?

Or prehaps there's a recent live CD (as the thread I linked too) that might support this USB device? Does knoppix 4 support it at all? (A quick search on google revealed no sign of support).

I also noticed as I poked around the internet that a hardware file DVB-usb-wt220u-01.fw would needed to be loaded as well. I am not sure if that's the right file for the freecom usb device but if it is, how do I load that?

Thanks,

SP
