mce remote wont work with hdmi

hi, i have an acer revo setup as an htpc running xbmc and using an mce remote (

for some reason, when i connect my revo to my tv using hdmi, my usb mce remote refuses to work (the red light on the usb receiver stays lit as if a button is being held down on the remote). but it works fine when i use vga.

why is this happening ?
