Matrox G400 and dfbmga

I'm trying to get DirectFB working with my G400 dual head card. As far as I can tell, nobody I've seen has had the same precise problem.

I used these directions, following them to the letter:
Code:
www.sci.fi/~syrjala/directfb/matrox-tv-out-howto
But when I run mplayer (mplayer -vo dfbmga whatever.avi) I get this error:

Code:
(*) parsing config file '/etc/directfbrc'.

vo_dfbmga: DirectFBCreate() failed - Not supported!
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.
My /etc/directfbrc looks like this:
Code:
matrox-crtc2
matrox-tv-standard=ntsc
I created the device w/ mknod:

Code:
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 0 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-0
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 1 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-1
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 2 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-2
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 3 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-3
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 4 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-4
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 5 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-5
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 6 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-6
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 89, 7 Jun 23 23:33 /dev/i2c-7
Here's what my /proc/bus/i2c looks like:
Code:
i2c-0 i2c bt848 #0 Bit-shift algorithm
i2c-1 i2c bt848 #1 Bit-shift algorithm
i2c-2 i2c DDC:fb0 #0 on i2c-matroxfb Bit-shift algorithm
i2c-3 i2c DDC:fb0 #1 on i2c-matroxfb Bit-shift algorithm
i2c-4 i2c MAVEN:fb0 on i2c-matroxfb Bit-shift algorithm
And of course an lspci:
Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G400 AGP (rev 03)
I'm using Slackware 9.1, kernel 2.2.24.

Thanks to a thread at directfb.org, I have the answer:

Load the i2c-dev module.

modprobe i2c-dev saved the day. I hope nobody else has to go through the frustrations I endured!

I want setup TV-out on my matrox G400. I'm using Fedora Core 2(LK 2.6). Does anyone know if the instruction at www.sci.fi/~syrjala/directfb/matrox-tv-out-howto will work on the 2.6 kernel?

Thanks,
Nate
