Manually starting a USB WLAN key that uses the wlan-ng driver on Auditor

In my few past experiences with linux I gained wireless internet access through a USB-400 key using the wlan-ng driver. This usb stick would always boot automatically on system start-up including on the knoppix based Auditor. Today for some reason the key failed to boot with the system though it still works fine in Windows and will still boot along with the Auditor disk in other computers. What I need to know is how does one startup a usb key manually after the system has already booted? (in this case Auditor)

dmesg | grep usb has the following lines at the end of output:
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
prism2usb_init: prism2_usb.o: 0.2.1-pre26 Loaded
prism2usb_init: dev_info is: prism2_usb
usbcore: registered new driver prism2_usb
usb 2-1: string descriptor 0 read error: -22
usb 2-1: string descriptor 0 read error: -22

I wasnt sure if the last two lines were relevent or not but it would appear that the device is recognized it just turns off after being recognized. How might I turn it back on?

any help would be appreciated,
PhantmShado
