Mandriva 2006 rc2 & ATI X700 driver

I have been trying to install a variety of Linux distro's without success. I have an AMD64 3000+ with an ATI X700 Pro PCIE video card and viewsonic P95f+ monitor. I downloaded the Mandriva 2006 rc2 3 cd set. My monitor and video card are recognized during installation. I accepted the ATI driver with fglrx. With the first boot, I only get text. I log in root and do the mcc, to change the driver. I switched driver to vesa. When I reboot and startx, I get an alternating between a black screen and my Gnome screen (changes apprx. every 10 seconds). Where did I go wrong?
During the install, I get a screen that says "your system supports multiple head configuration. What do you want to do
O Configure all heads independently
O Use Xinerama extension
O Configure only card
O Configure only ATI X700 Pro (PCIE) secondary PCI:0
I'm not sure if I made a mistake in this area? Which do I choose?
Any and all help is appreciated.
