Hello, I'm a newbie in Linux...
I'm trying to install a Mandrake 9 (2.4.19-16 kernel) on my computer. As you may have seen in another post, here is the config I want to set up on an Abit KR7A-Raid motherboard:
Raid port 1 disk 1: MDK9 on 8 Gb old Seagate drive (Master)
Raid port 1 disk 2: Windows XP on 60 Gb IBM 60 GXP drive (Slave)
Raid port 2 disk 1: Datas on 120 Gb IBM 120 GXP drive (Master)
Raid port 2 disk 2: None
On the other IDE ports, i've got my DVD-Rom device and my Yamaha CD R/RW, each one Master on a channel.
Some unsuccessful installs make me think there's a problem with the kernel support of the hpt 370/372 Raid controler. Indeed, partitions are not available during the install and I can't boot linux when I succeded inthe install with the modified kernel provided on some web sites.
At the end of the install, is is asked to replace kernel files in /boot directory, owerwriting the existing ones. Installation progrm never ask me wether I want to overwrite when I copy the new files. And I can't find the /chroot directory to go to lilo just before rebooting.
Note that I don't want to set up Raid arrays, just want to use the available channels for my HDDs.
If someone has any idea, this would be great
Thanks in advance (excuse for english, it's not my native langage...)
