Mandrake 9.2 Display/Boot problems

Hello Everyone,

over the last few days, i have been playing with my modules.conf file to try and get my sound up and going. that was keeping me busy enough, but this aftyernoon when i got home from work, i booted up and X would not launch. instead, it went straight into terminal mode

it gave me this message

(EE) NVIDIA(0) ***aborting***

then when i run the display configure though drakconf, i get

(EE) NVIDIA(0) ***aborting***
failed to initialize kernel module.

When i try and launch X with startx in terminal, the screen quickly flashes and i get "no screens found"

i am running mandrake 9.2 on a dell dimension 4600. right now i am in windows. if anyone who has any suggestions on how to get my display back, i would really appreciate your advice. iup until this morning, the display was working great, as i had nvidia geforce 2 driver running.

any ideas? thanks,
randal

Post your modules.conf file. It should have this line if you have the nvidia driver:

alias /dev/nvidia* nvidia

You can also try to load the driver from the command line by su to root and:

# modprobe nvidia

You'll get some warning about a nonstandard kernel module which can be ignored. Then exit root and run:

$ startx
