Question Mandrake 9.1 x US-International Keyboard x Brazil Portuguese

Hello Linux Community!

I'm facing a little (and annoying) problem using Mandrake 9.1!

My keyboard, which has a common US-International layout, is properly configured, EXCEPT for a detail: here in Brazil we use "c-cedilla" ("ç") a lot, but Mandrake puts an acute (as in "á") on the "c" instead of putting the cedilla under it, when I press the normal sequence ('+c) as we do for every operational system - it works for all Linux distros I've tried, and for the Windows 98 that I'm using to write this post .

How to fix this? I've tried to replace the Compose file in the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/iso8859-1 directory (using files from Conectiva 8.0 distro), as described in one of those howto's over the internet, but everything remained the same...

C with an acute, I think, is used by eastern european languages... Not Portuguese, for sure!

Please, I want my cedilla back...

I have the same problem

If you got a solution for your problem could you please post it. I want
to use the "special" characters from portuguese using a standard US (international)
keyboard.

ronaldomenezes, I've solved my problem reinstalling the Mandrake 9.1 (with the old same keyboard map US-intl) and de-selecting one action for the inicialization: at the end of the install process (I don't remember if you can change it after, in the Mandrake Control Center...), there is an option for choosing what will be activated during the inicialization (network, internet resources, some peripherals, etc, etc); among these several programs, there is one which refers to keyboard. I remember that there were over 25 commands or programs that Mandrake selects by standard; as I don't use internet with Linux, I deactivated most, staying with just 8 of them. And it seems that the keyboard inicialization command was interfereing on the performance of the keys; after deactivation, the keyboard works fine.

Finally my Linux works! Now I have two challenges: put my modem and scanner to work with Linux too...

Mandrake 10.0 cedilla solution

Hi

Now is 1:45 AM and my wife wish kill me but I found the solution for the cedilla problem:

1) You need replace the entries at the file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose where cedillas appear.

That is the diff of the new versus old

53,54c53,54
< <dead_acute> <c> : "ç" ccedilla
< <dead_acute> <C> : "Ç" Ccedilla
---
> <dead_acute> <c> : "ć" cacute
> <dead_acute> <C> : "Ć" Cacute
715,716c715,716
< <Multi_key> <c> <apostrophe> : "ç" ccedilla
< <Multi_key> <C> <apostrophe> : "Ç" Ccedilla
---
> <Multi_key> <c> <apostrophe> : "ć" cacute
> <Multi_key> <C> <apostrophe> : "Ć" Cacute

Boa Sorte
