If you can't install the kernel source, check it's installed by trying to uninstall it. If you want, uninstall and then reinstall via the Mandrake tools and then you should find the files.
Did you make or buy your install cds?

hrm ok I found it it was in lib/modules/version/ but its not the source it is the core.... is there a difference? But now I really only have 1 error left... It cannot find lvki.o which there was never any. does that mean I have to compile lvki.c to make lvki.o?

Have you tried the 'search in files' option for the software installer? Instead of the default search package names.

I have tried both there is no kernel source package

None? Check the uninstaller app then, maybe Mdk thinks it's still installed.
Maybe you'll have to regenerate your rpm listing.

By the way i just succesfully installed my BCM V.90 56k modem in Mandrake linux 9.1...
