Question Mandrake 9.1 sound problem from newbie

Hi guys. I just installed Mandrake 9.1, and I'm wondering how I can get the sound working. I have an on-board sound card, which I believe is a C-Media AC97.

I'm pretty new to Linux so if you could use laymen's terms I sure would appreciate it! I know a good deal about computers in general, but Linux is new territory for me. I'm willing to mess around, though, and follow instructions on what to do to fix this problem.

You don't give a lot of info, but there's something really easy you may have missed. Look for a program called "aumix" and make sure the volumes are up and you don't have things muted. The program should be under multimedia in the menu. Mine installed with everything turned way down and managed to fool me for a while.

I have found that you need to bring up Kmix, and adjust one of the sliders at the etreme right - can't remember which one, but it needs to be moved to unlock the sound.
