Mandrake 9.1 MS Intellimouse Optical USB

I'm wanting to get started with Linux, but my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (USB) doesn't show up as a choice, nor does it seem to work with any of the choices, in installation for a mouse.

I'm not very knowledgeable about Linux, just really want to try it and see if I can make the switch, therefore any help would be appreciated that is pretty much a "step by step" set of instructions for helping me to get my mouse to work.

i'm using an ms usb optical 5 button mouse with no problem

it tends to show up as a "default usb wheel mouse" during installation (on mandrake, redhat , suse and slackware)
as long as the cursor can be moved round the screen with it during install there shouldn't be a problem, (wheel functionality can be added later if necessary, very easily)
