Mandrake 9.1 and Promise Raid Question
I searched the forum and did not find an answer that seemed to fit my question. I am about to try installing Mandrake 9.1. I have a gigabyte 845PE board with Promise Raid on board. I currently have 2 drives striped divided into 3 partitions running only XP. I used Partition Magic 8 to make a linux partition to install Mandrake to. Is this gonna work? Will Mandrake recognize the raid and install ok or should I try something else? Thanx for any info. Also the rest of my hardware looks like this: Nvidia Ti-4400 Video Card, On board Intel LAN, Creative Audigy 2 Sound. Any problems with any of that hardware?? Thanx for any info for a n00b.
Nate

It depends, which model of Promise RAID card? Nearly all of them got supported in 2.4.20, but there are a few that aren't You're looking for a number like: PDC20270 or similiar.
Video, get the drivers from Nvidia, LAN no problem, sound... Mandrake is going to install ALSA, that one card does quirky stuff sometimes, make certain you have it set to analog or digital in the mixer, the default will most likely be not what you want. Aside from that it looks pretty normal.
Cheers,
Finegan

I too have a gigabyte 845PE board. my setup is the same as natesch, with striped partition and windows xp running on some partition magic 8 created partitions, but i cannot get mandrake to see my hdd's.
anh suggestions? I've tried mandrake 9 drivers, but that doesn't work, and there is no pdc20270 or pdc20276 that i have seen in the install
