Hi .
I have installed the Nvidia drivers but I did it using the sourcerpm and GLX.rpm.
Would there be any benefit to installing these rpms compiled for MK 9.0 as opposed to the ones I have already. Everything seems to be working fine so far. Just wondering.
I used
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123.src.rpm
NVIDA_GLX-1.0-3123.i386.rpm
Are these compiled ones better than mine.

Thorshammer
did u get the IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH error when using the drivers form the nvidia website ??
I believe the installation would be the same just as long as it is complied for the same kernel but maybe someone can correct on this.

No I didnt get any error mesage like that.
I got an error message about a tainted kernel(after kernel install) but it means nothing. Also I got an errror message after GLX install, but agian these messages are purely informative. It says right in the README.
I had to edit my console.perms file(agian as per the README, but everything is working fine and im playying UT2003 with no slowdowns.
If I ever have to do a reinstall I will try these drivers next time.
I didnt read all the messages in this thread, but did anyone mention that you have to install the kernel-source from CD3 in order for the NVIDIA drivers to work.
If you go to the install software section and search for kernel a list will come. If it doesnt its already installed. If it does install it then install the NVIDIA drivers.

Try opening the games from the command line and see if you get any error messages. For example, open up a text console (such as konsole in KDE) and type tuxracer. If you get any error messages, then post them here, if not, then, erm, post again anyway.

IS the error message( if you get one ) something "the permissions are to restrictive"
After I set up the Nvidia drvers I got this error message when trying to run games that required 3D(tuxracer, UT 2003) It has to do with a setting in console.perms file. The info is in the Nvidia readme file. I cant remember the exact thing to do but its something to do with removing any "driv" lines in you're console.perms file.
Hope that helps.

That was exacly my problem. I think it has something to with the auto login.
Change it to not auto login in in your boot config.

Quick followup question to this thread. I just installed the Nvidia drivers from the source tarballs on my Mandrake system. (I have a GeForce 3 Ti 200). Everything seems to have gone fine. I can play TuxRacer, although the anti-aliasing seems a bit rough. The penguin is basically a tad bit "blocky", but I think that's more due to the fact that TuxRacer is not a terribly sophisticated game...
I tried to load the GL Gears as a screensaver, though, and that's where some weirdness came into play. The screensaver blanks my screen, but loads some messages about "no GL loaded." And I don't see the gears. But if I try Gears from the console, those guys are cranking at "14254 frames in 5.000 seconds = 2850.800 FPS"
Do I need to spice up my Xf86config-4 file with some driver options? If so, would anyone be willing to post their config file so I could take a peek? Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the GlGears thing, but have you tried cranking up the res in TuxRacer?

crank up res?
Not sure how I would do that, but I'll fiddle with it. Are these in-game settings I'm tweaking or parameters from the console I enter BEFORE I load the game?
Thanks!

If you've run TuxRacer once, then you'll have a hidden directory in your home dir called .tuxracer. Inside there should be (two) files, and the one you want to edit is, obviously enough, called options. It's very well commented throughout, so it should be a breeze setting up anything you want, even changing the keys!
