Mandrake 8.2, nVidia drivers and lock-ups in some OpenGL games...

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ with 512MB of DDR RAM, 7100 rpm 60 GB HD, Motherboard with KT333 chipset (AD 75+), Soundblaster Live! 5.1, and generic nVidia GeForce2 MX 64MB AGP graphics card.

I use Mandrake 8.2 (no sense in upgrading until the kernel supports the full feature set of the KT333). I use the stock nVidia kernel driver for Mandrake 8.2 version 31.23, and a rebuild of the same version of the GLX driver rebuilt with the source RPM for i586 support. For AGP, I'm using AGPgart (KT333 is not supported for full AGP support with the nVidia drivers).

When I try to run either Return to Castle Wolfenstein or the new Neverwinter Nights Linux ports, I get lock-ups about 3/4 into the load screens of the first levels of those respective games. I get fine performance from OpenGL when using Quake 3 Arena, Descent3, FreeSpace 2 (and 1 for that matter), or any game using 3D in WineX (Jedi Knight2, Jedi Knight 1, Elite Force, Starfleet Command, even wolfenstein).

What could this problem be??? Could it be I am missing some form of Library file (the most likely cause)??? Could it be something missing in the XFree86config-4 file (I can't see how as these other games run)??? I'm baffled. I've never run into a problem like this in 2.5 yrs of using Linux as my primary OS.

Any help is appreciated. Ideas???
