Mandrake 10.1, lircd, lircmd

I've followed the method at to get my Hauppauge remote working under Mandrake 10.1OE.

Everything seemed fine (lircd and lircmd working; remote active in xawtv and mplayer) but then I rebooted. Lircd and Lircmd haven't been back since. I've ensured that /dev/lirc and /dev/lirc/0 are created, and run 'service lircd restart' and 'service lircmd restart' with no success. I've run 'depmod -a' again in the .../3rdparty/lirc directory. In effect, I've run the whole process again, but cannot get the remote to work again!

All suggestions appreciated.
