make kworld TV tuner work with tv software like mythtv

Wondering if there is a way to get kworld ub435-qv3 tv tuner to work with Linux tv software e.g. mythtv and particularly fedora 22 or 23?

I don't like any of the TV software out there, so we made a simple recorder program for ourselves. We originally used it with a Hauppauge analog tuner, but now it is being adapted to the KWorld and all other standard ATSC devices. It should work on all distributions with a >3.16 kernel (due to the V3 tuner). Unfortunately, it's probably not ready for distribution right now.

Do you have a specific problem with running it in MythTV?

Linuxtv.org is the best place to start I'd think.

That is a good source, although it doesn't tell you a lot about getting it working. There should be a page about TV software, though, that you could look through and choose from. Most should work pretty much out of the box.

An example. https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Installing_MythTV_on_Fedora

As with any device you follow some path like this.

Does device have native support in kernal?
Can you add it in or find out why some driver issue exists.

Now that the device is working you then move on to software that may access it.

For the most part once a device is working natively in linux you can generally use your program to select the input source as in this example.

It may be that some programs may not work. VLC can generally access these types of devices but you may need to know a bit about your local tv.

Other things like XBMC/Kodi as well and the Myth's usually tell how they support devices.

There are many programs on the web for linux and tv but they are not nearly as easy as some of the windows choices. Linux would require more than a few steps to get any sort of recording. Some few steps may happen to get live tv. No way that I've seen to do it with some wizard.

Well, a wizard is kind of what our program is trying to do. It can record, tune, and watch Live TV. All tuning for DVB devices is included in the program, and it uses VLC or MPlayer to watch. So, it's fairly simple on its own. It's built with Qt, and uses just a simple dialog interface with standard text widgets.

Not sure what happened to the Ubuntu TV. Looks like there is a lot of work there oldtechaa. Is that what you are using?

Doubt any of what we have said has helped the OP.

Yes, we're using our program for home media center DVR usage. It works, but it keeps getting updates to fix bugs and add new features. We are using both a Hauppauge PVR analog and a KWorld UB435-Q V3, which works well, but requires a >=3.16 kernel.

Others may wish to try your application.

All right, I'll talk to the author about maybe releasing it somewhere. If anyone wants to try it in the meantime, let me know, and I'll see about that too.
