i cant give you the answer but i can give u a few tips as i have the same problem with diff modem..
Firstly PCI is basically the name for most cards that go in your computer. (Graphics is AGP) umm so yer is it in the PC or a box outside? On http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ i couldnt find what i needed but u might... First get a proggie called List Modem somewhere on that site and follow the instructions to findout if ur modem is supported. If so then download the right driver for your modem AND kernel. Hope this is of some help |
ok its an internal modem- i ran the find modem thing in winblows and it said this---
===================================================================== = SYSTEM INFORMATION = ===================================================================== Date : 8/14/2003 ListMdm Ver : 1.6 Windows OS : Microsoft Windows XP Build Number : 2600 ===================================================================== = RESULT OF MODEM QUERY = ===================================================================== NUMBER OF MODEMS FOUND = 1 MODEM #1: PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ: VENDOR ID : 11C1 DEVICE ID : 044E SUBVENDOR ID : 1235 SUBDEVICE ID : 044E REVISION ID : 02 DEDUCED INFORMATION: VENDOR NAME : UNKNOWN DEVICE NAME : UNKNOWN SUBVENDOR NAME : HEWLETT PACKARD RIPTIDE -- HTTP://WWW.HP.COM/ MODEM TYPE : UNKNOWN WINXP INBUILD SUPPORT : NO ok now what do i do? i looked at softmodems at linuxant and i didnt find that number. help, and thank u loki_VA |
The best spot for winmodem info is www.linmodems.org. Here is a run down of things you should do:
Get a lucent chipset driver (that matches your kernal version) and follow the directions. Here is where you can find the drivers: http://www.heby.de/ltmodem Here are some extra resources: http://walbran.org/sean/linux/linmodem-howto.html http://users.ox.ac.uk/~mert1313/ltmodem.html Be sure to check out that last link I gave to you, that is the one that helped me most when I was getting my lucent winmodem to work under Linux. Good luck, be sure to come back to this thread with questions/followups! |
ok looks like its not supported but it still may werk
*I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THIS DOESNT WERK, DO SO AT OWN RISK* that being said: 1. goto http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/files/check_chipset.pdf and follow the instructions to find out wether or not it is a HCF or HSF modem. when u know 2. go back to the http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ page and get the soucre tar (says in caption "option of last resort compatible with the most systems") that applies ie HCF or HSF. ASWELL as the rip tide oucre tar (says in caption "option of last resort compatible with the most systems") and compile and install both (instructions in the tar's for compiling) 3. Hope like hell it doesnt kill ur system, i assume it just wouldnt work and that would be the end of it but i CANT promise anything. Hope it werks for u, its what im about to try right now on my system. |
id say try the post above mine first for sure.!!

is there any way to figure out if it its HCF or HSF without opening the computer up.
