ltmodem - please help, ive looked everywhere....
Hello. Ive been searching for a while on how to get the ltmodem driver working on Fedora Core 2, but I just cant get it to work. Ive tried every package on heby.de/ltmodem and the 2.6 drivers. The main source driver installs fine with no errors, but I cant connect - it keeps saying "cant open modem" - in all ports. The others, when i try to compile them, fail with Error 2, even after following the instructions. Yet, other people say that the installation has been flawless. im using the default Fedora Core 2 kernel.
Ive tried posting on another forum with no replies, and I cant upgrade to Fedora 2 until I can find the drivers. Thanks to anyone who helps :) |
Have you tried this instead?
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pack...-alk-4.tar.bz2 I have problem with http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/ltmodem-8.31a5.tar.gz too, but no problem with ltmodem-2.6-alk-4.tar.bz2. The ltmodem-2.6-alk-4.tar.bz2 is a little raw, you need to edit the Makefile(i did) and copy the ltserial.ko and ltmodem.ko to the lib/modules/2.6.7/other (it's in the README). Good luck. |
Please could you show Makefile because I'm new to Linux and I can't modify it myself to get it working! I like many things in Fedora but my modem isn't still working! I used http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/ltmodem-8.31a5.tar.gz and everything seems all right but the KO files. Or could you possibly make available these files on the WEB? Thanx in advance.

Thanks for replying. Newinlinux - your kernel version seems to be 2.6.7, yet the default kernel is 2.6.5-1.358-ntpl. Is there some easy (rpm) way to upgrade to that kernel, as that one seems to work. I have tried every file i could find to get it to work, including that one, and none work.
Thanks again for replying, your help is appreciated |

Newinlinux, please send me ltmodem.ko and ltserial.ko to 'dickmobbis at bigmir.net'. My kernel is 2.6.5-1.358 (Fedora Core 2 default). Yesterday I made my modem work, query modem was OK, but using KPPP or wvdial hanged my machine after establishing connection. Then I used console and wvdial and saw (after establishing modem connection to my ISP):
kernel panic - softirq error (something like this) and error code - and of course only reset helped. Maybe your drivers will fix the problem. I've made much progress in Linux over the last month but modem still doesn't work. Thank you for your attention. |
Hi. I guess it cant hurt to try your ko files. Please send them to tbfirefox at yahoo dot co dot nz.
It wont matter soon, as I am finally purchasing a hardware modem :) no more playing around with the ltmodem, horray! Thanks for your replies |
I will send the files out tonight when i reach home. I really doubt the .ko can help you folks, but just give them a try anyway.
I doubted it as I have personally experienced that whenever i upgraded my kernel say from 2.6.7-r7 to 2.6.7-r8, a minor upgrade, and the driver wont work. I will have to recompile them in order for ltmodem work again. Juts my observation. Will send them out anyway. |
