lspci and ltmodem

Hi all,

Been a while since ive posted here. My problem is that I have a lucent winmodem here and I recently found out that it works quite nicely under linux so I decided to put it in my server so if my cable connection goes down I can have it dial up and still be online.

The problem I run into is that when I put it into the server box it just doesnt show up anywhere.

lspci in my desktop box shows:

00:0a.0 Communication controller: Lucent Microelectronics LT WinModem (rev 02)

while on the server box it shows everything but this. There is also no mention of it in dmesg(which it probably wouldnt be since its not in lspci). Ive tried different pci slots and even removed one of my nics and put the modem in its place to make sure it wasnt a bad slot.

Now its back in my desktop to make sure the modem didnt die and it does still work.

Here's a little bit of info about the machines since they are different:

Desktop box(works in here):
amd 2600
kernel 2.6.7 (gentoo)

Server box(doesnt work here):
500mhz intel
kernel 2.4.25 (gentoo)

Anyone have any idea why the modem would show up in one and not the other?

Thanks.

would an irq conflict cause this? also is there a bios or kernel config option that I might be overlooking?

Update, I tried installing a 2.4 kernel on my desktop and the modem works in 2.4 also.

Any help on this at all will, so please dont be shy. I dont think it is a problem with modem drivers since it doesnt show up in lspci. I think it might be a pci problem, but I dont know what.
