Looking to get a desktop built to order
 

Any suggestions as to companies that can build me a good computer at a reasonable price? When I look at the mainline companies, they all seem to be lacking in the power supply or they include all this garbage that i do not want or need. I have found about 4 companies that seem to do a good job on building the computer but am looking for the best deal I can get on a fairly ordinary desktop that will be expandable and yet affordable.

I checked a couple of companies and they started at $1000 and up and when I asked about getting the computer without an O/S so I could install Linux, I was told that they always loaded Windows and I would just have to wipe out Windows and then load. I would prefer not having to do that. A couple would load Linux but not the distros I am interested in. I just want a good solid expandable computer without an O/S. Looking to keep it under $800 if possible as I don't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse or speakers. Also do not want a floppy drive.

Just get the goods and build it yourself.Those guys are charging waaayy too much for putting a bunch of screws into the harddrives.It ain't rocket science after all.If you don't know what works together just go to anandtech,extremetech or tomshardware (to name some of the usual suspects) and check for systems they put together.

Since my ability with tools is done as soon as I screw the legs into a table and anything else is beyond me, I am not likely to do this. I would probably electrocute myself the first time I plugged it in - and that is assuming I even got it put together in the first place.

When I was in school (50 years ago) the shop teacher sent me to the library and gave me credit for the class because I was such a danger to the rest of the class. I have not improved since.
