Looking for a really quiet PSU?
After 12 years my Seasonic S12 430w PSU finally packed up, so I have had more than my money’s worth out of it.
Initially I could not be certain that the PSU was faulty so I purchased a cheap tester which gave a blank output and confirmed my suspicions:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/YBLNTEK-Com...01251666&psc=1
That tester is a generic model which goes under several names but it certainly does the job and I can recommend it. I tested my other PSUs and they both came up with healthy voltages of 12.1v and 12.2v.
Looking around for a replacement PSU, I looked at Seasonic and Corsair amongst others.
I finally decided to go with a 400w PSU made in Germany by BeQuiet!.
BeQuiet! PSUs have received rave reviews and my one certainly lives up to its name.
The only noise is from the CPU fan.
All BeQuiet!’s PSUs use fans. They do not make passive PSUs for the reasons outlined here:

The other option is to get rid of it altogether.
Power in this country is stupidly expensive, and noise on top of that all day is a no-no for me. Couple of pi3's fixed that in this house.

@syg00
@fatmac,
Sorry but I am strictly old-school and I prefer working in a decent-sized case.
Thanks for the tips anyway.
