Logitech webcam not working with Skype in laptop in HP compaq nx9010, distro UNR
Changed the distro in my HP compaq nx9010 from Natty (seemed too heavy) to UNR, which makes me happy except for the fact that the cheap Logitech cam wont't show any pictures anymore. Cheese is working fine. Of course I could buy another brand, but seems a pity to get rid of that camera if I only could get it working. A solution, anyone?
What exactly doesn't work about it within skype? If it works within cheese, most likely you need to configure skype to use your webcam. Can you verify if it is even being detected within the skype preferences?
Hi
Skype "Options Video Devices" tells me there is a USB Camera (046d:08d9) (/dev/video0). When I click "Test" nothing happens (not even statics), when I double-click the screen goes all white. The sound devices work OK (after I removed the Alsamixer), so there is only the picture thing bothering me...
Typing this in the terminal will get it working, but not when i start Skype the ordinary way. Even installed v4l from Synaptic, to no use.
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
Do I have to run this command every time I use Skype? Where can I find the Applications/Menu Editor/Skype launcher/Properties button in that distro in order to change the command to this Terminal command?
Checked out that I have libv4l-O installed.
After that typed in terminal: sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/skype.desktop
Edited line 4 and replaced Exec=skype with: Exex bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'
Saved and closed
And everything just works!! Would you believe, hope someone else finds this useful too.
