Logitech Quickcam Messenger.. help!

I just recently got up and running with this new webcam. It seems to be working in that when using Skype, the signal is sent to the person no problem (plus a little funky green light lights up when the camera starts up.) The first thing I noticed though, was that I couldn't see myself in the skype window.

Upon trying to load the camera up in xine or mplayer, the camera seems to startup, but I just get a black screen with no signal. It's as if the signal freezes or something.

Anyways, I'm having troubles finding a definitive source for figuring this all out. If anyone has some tips to get the camera up and running, that'd be great.

I'm running Slackware on a Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop.

Thanks in advance,
Coto

Sorry about the lack of information. The webcam is a usb cam, output from dmesg:

quickcam [48.593831]: ----------LOADING QUICKCAM MODULE------------
quickcam [48.593837]: struct quickcam size: 4408
usbcore: registered new interface driver quickcam

lsusb:
Bus 1 Device 4: ID 046d:08da Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messanger

Kernel + Distro:
Slackware 12.0 on kernel 2.6.21.5

Again, any help would be appreciated. Even a push in the right direction.. to a guide or something.
