Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Logitech MX300 Scroll issue

I've been searching the forums before posting this but havn't found anything that helped.

I have a MX300 pluggen in my USB port, and the mouse works good, but I can't get the scroll wheel to work.

My current xorg.conf mouse section looks like this:

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/usbmouse"
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxizMapping" "4 5"

I have tried many differens protocols from xorgs documentation but nothing has worked so far. I've also tried using xev to see if the buttons do give a signal but are just incorrectly mapped.. but so far I havn't been able to get any signals from the wheel.
MX300 had a small button above the scroll wheel so I'm not sure if I should go for 6 buttons, have tried that too without success. All I have been able to acomplish is getting different button signals from the buttons with different protocols.

Any suggestions?

I'm running gentoo with a 2.6.9 gentoo-dev-source kernel.
