Logitech MX 3100 MX3100 Linux compatible?
Hello, I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the new Logitech MX 3100 Cordless Desktop can be compatible with Linux. I have the new Mandrake 2005 LE, or Mandriva to be more specific, and I need to update my keyboard and mouse. I have read excellent reviews for the MX 3100 and I am leaning towards buying it, but if it's not compatible with linux I cannot do that. Anyone can help me out here? Your help would be very much appreciated.

Its a pretty odd keyboard that isn't Linux compatible. I've got a Logitech Desktop Pro that works just fine. All the hardware support aspect of this is generic, the only specialized bit you'll have to worry about is the keyboard map itself, the normal 104-105 should work fine, but the extra keys may take a special modmap, if logitech doesn't have em, they're probably online, its pretty easy to map them. Really, if this is just a normal old RF or IR keyboard, its nothing to sweat in the least. If its bluetooth, then it can get a little hinky.
Cheers,
Finegan

Thanks finegan. Neither are bluetooh so I am glad about that. Also I guess that main reason I want to get this particular combo is because it is cordless. I personally like to seat back while I am at the computer. Is there a cordless combo that you suggest?

Not really, I impulse bought mine while picking up my new machine, can't say I did much consumer matching. Kinda wish I has as it was for the fileserver connected to the TV, so I could have done with a bit more range. Also I'm into ergonomic keyboards as I began to feel the wrist pinch a while back, and most people can't stand them.
Cheers,

That's a pity that it won't work, I really like the extra media buttons. I already miss ready access to volume control...
