Question logitech mouse

My second day with linux (RH8) i finally have it up and running although now i find more teething troubles, hardware.

Does anyone have any advice on setting up a logitech trackman marble wheel mouse. I have got it working although the left click is slow to respond and takes several attempts to complete the action. also the wheel does nothing.

thank you in advance.

i don't have any experience with this mouse specifically, have you tried a google search for info? that could be a nice place to start, does the redhat-config-mouse pick it up correctly?

configuring logitech mouse

I have the same mouse on a SuSE box. Here is the relevant section of
/etc/X11/XF86Config:

Section "InputDevice"
Driver "mouse"
Identifier "Mouse[1]"
Option "ButtonNumber" "5"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "InputFashion" "Mouse"
Option "Name" "Autodetection"
Option "Protocol" "imps/2"
Option "Vendor" "Sysp"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

You will need at least this much information to configure your mouse. What else
you have to specify in other control files on a Red Hat box, I don't know.

yes

Yes, my scroll wheel works.

My current mouse configuration was set up automatically by a SuSE install. The
information I sent to you was generated by the SuSE install process.

However in October 2001 my previous mouse went to rodent heaven and I had to
manually install my present mouse.

I used the SuSE sax2 command which generated a workable XF86Config file which I
presume looks like my current XF86Config file.

When I did the manual configuration I also had to tell X Window to use the
imwheel program. imwheel handles the scroll wheel. I had to place the command
just ahead of the command to start the window manager in the two files:

/root/.xinitrc
/home/user/.xinitrc

Red Hat probably uses .xintrc also.
