Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman + Mandrake 9.1

I'm thinking about getting this cordless trackball, but I can't confirm compability with Mandrake 9.1. Logitech doesn't seem to have drivers available.

Anyone use this trackball?

Does it plug in to the PS/2 port? If so, then it will almost certainly be supported! Even if you select 'generic wheel mouse' (as I have with my (spits) MS Trackball). Also, my RF wireless mouse/keyboard combo (which plug into the PS/2 ports) are both supported. You will probably find, actually, that if you don't install the drivers in Windows it will still work absolutely fine!

If it has more than 3 buttons (and I include the scrolly thing as a button), then you'll need to read around to get them working right - but it's not hard.

I believe it uses a USB port.

(But I think I'm going to go with a different RF set anyway.)

It comes with USB and an adapter for it to work with PS/2. I have not tried the PS/2 adapter but the USB works fine.

I have not tried getting all the buttons/scroll-wheel working yet, but otherwise the normal stuff works fine. I do have an issue with the orientation of the X/Y axis of the trackball (what was the X axis on my previous trackball isnt quite the X axis on this trackball...etc).....but I think it will just take time for me to adapt to it...

As for my comments on the trackball orientation:

http://www.file.cc/Logitech_Cordless...00006B9CR.html

To quote the first review:

Quote:
Vertical/horizontal orientation is VERY far off out-of-box, (about 30 degrees, but feels like more at first) but can be adjusted under WINDOWS ONLY. (If you are a Linux user, you should probably pass, Linux mouse drivers dont currently offer orientation adjustments or extra [>3] button assignments) [Maybe some consumer pressure can convince Logitech to spare a few programmer-hours to add this support to the Open-Source driver? :^) Worth a few emails a week...]

Was going to write a hack. In the source under mouse.c I found an undocumented option.
In your XF86Config under your pointer section for the trackman try adding the line:

Option "AngleOffset" "x"
x can be a positive or negative number.

I'm currently trying out -45.

Seems to work a lot better now. Using xfree86 4.3.
