Question Loading a CD

I have a CD drive which will not open except when I stick a paperclip in the little hole. It does not respond to the button, and when I try to eject it from the desktop, I get the error "Eject dev/hdc failed!" I don't think I've done anything to damage the hardware.

The drive is a Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-852S. I have SuSE Linux 9.3.

have you tried umount /dev/hdc or as root if you type "eject" in the command line does it still say it fails ? If you reboot your computer and you get at the post screen does it still no eject if you hit the button ?

umount /dev/hdc succeeds in unmounting the drive. I never had any problem on that end. The eject command does not work. I'm told it's an invalid argument, and then the CD gets remounted.

sometimes that error happens to me, I can ususlly get it to eject by adding the -s option to eject, even though my drive isn't SCSI.
