LIve!

OK I had a duel boot system with xp and 98.. So now I added red hat linux to the mix (yep just trying to screw things up). Well i have nevr used linux before so I am in need of just a little help. I got everything working great except for my #### sound blaster live! card. Anyone have any idea what the procedure is to get it working? Is there a real driver available for it? Any help will be appriciated.

redhat has a utility(soundconfig, i think) for that, but i also think you can load the emu10k1 module as the driver-make sure the permissions are correct for the /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer, so you can get sound as a user.

Thankyou for the response but I am gonna have to ask you to be a little more precise. What is the emu10k1 module? Is it included on the installation cds? How do I set permissions? Sorry I am quite new with linux.(can't believe I got it installed without anyproblems). Thanks again for the assist. and thankyou in advance if you can describe a little better. Well for now its back to the on going battle for Umm Qast, Iraq. Best damn video game I have ever watched lol.

You can get your emu10k1 info here, and a search of the board will give you several emu10k1 threads.

Well I got it working (no idea how I did it) And I consider myself a windows and dos expert. I will stick with linux and learn it just because. But I will never ever suggest anyone that I sell a computer to to ever even consider using it unless they like headaches. And just in case all you experts don'trelize it. When someone says they are new to linux it probably means you will have to hold there hands and walk them through everything step by step. Well next I will have to see if I can recompile the kernal??? I kinda think I might possibly have a slight idea what I am doing but I doubt it lol. Well thanks all for the little bit of help it kinda sorta in a way pointed me in the right direction .
