linux won't boot.

My server recently fried one of its RAM dimm's. I took out the effected one, but now when I try to boot up it stops after the "freeing unused kernel memory" step.

It doesn't freeze, but it doesn't do anything else either. I'm running Red Hat 7.2.

Is there anyway to fix it, or atleast get it fixed long enough to backup my htdocs, and mysql db's?

If I have to reinstall I'm planning on putting on FreeBSD, so if there is a way to install that without losing my files I'd consider that as well.

I just realized that I posted this in the hardware section, and not software... I don't want to double post, so if someone could move it that would be great.

i dont know about the problem, but if your just trying to boot onto your disks to backup data, try booting off the install cd and passing the right arguments to the boot loader so it will boot off your hard drives. im not sure if red hat supports though. but give it a try
