Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Linux version of IRQ's?

I just ordered mandrake 9.2 from ebay, 56k user, and I'm trying to get the modem research done by using knoppix. When I had Mandrake 8.2 I was unable to to get the HCF modem to work or how to go about it even. I'm assuming that even though 9.2 is supposed to support Conexant winmodems, that they won't be available on the version I'm getting -aka non-boxed.

BTW, has anyone lost their membership status from mandrake, from the time 8.2 came out? I'm relegated to a 30 day alumni status, with no chance of true support/download ability for a product I already bought, unless I cough up a monthly/yearly charge

Anyway, my question is at the bottom and...
Here is my modem specs from running scanModem on Knoppix 3.1:

Supposedly, it's possible to setup the modem drivers on the knoppix live cd,
it's difficult to work around the read only directories though....so I'm looking to the future when I get my cd's.

My question is how to convert the IRQ 10 into something useful for setting up the drivers, etc. Notice, that I'm assuming it will not work right away. I'm not really sure how to poke around, after I get mandrake and the modem drivers installed, to see what may be wrong. I think it would be good knowledge to have at any rate.

By the way, my thanks to goldennuggets with the linkage for the drivers. I've been searching for a while and the mandrake site was useless. Will there be any kernel/etc dependencies with the old HCF drivers for MDK 9.2?

Maybe a better question would be:
can anyone explain how IRQ and device id's are related?
