Linux (Ubuntu) computer + ATI + LCD-TV with VGA-input = flickering display??

Hello! I have an issue with a flickering display on my LCD-TV when I hook my computer on it's VGA input, not that it bothers me much but it gives me a headache after an hour or so. I don't believe it has anything to do with TV itself or the connection to the computer because the manufacturer's splash screen that pops up when you turn on the computer comes in clear and no flickering at all. I tried a different refresh rate on the display settings (max. 75hz) to no avail. Do I have to set something in the config for my ATI card? My computer has a ATI Radeon X-1600 graphics card and the driver seems to be properly installed (seems to me at least) What else could I try to get that fixed?
