Linux support for ESS 1788 sndcard

I've got a PC with an old ESS 1788 Sound chipset. Is there any linux support for it? If so, where? If not, how could I enable audio capabilities on this PC?

I had a look here for ALSA support http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...hnology#matrix

and I looked here for OSS support

http://www.opensound.com/osshw.html

I don't see anything starting with ess17 for either sound system. If it is really old, OSS is more likely to work, if you can figure out, or some one can tell you which driver.

There is a sound utility I used a while ago, called something like 'sndcfg' and it used to work with some older hardware.

Hopefully someone can tell you what driver will work.

Is it a 1788, or perhaps a 1688? When I run "modprobe -c |grep snd-es" I see a driver for snd-es1688.

thanks camorri. Hopefully it'll work.
