Ive decided to buy hardware SATA RAID controller. I hope that i will not have same problems like with ICH5R. Which hardware SATA RAID would you recommend?

Thanks for your replies

If you buy a true hardware SATA RAID controller you will not have problems - they don't need any non-standard drivers: the hardware does all the work. If money-is-no-object I would recommend 3ware ( - they are fast, stable, reliable, good technical support and linux compatible (check this for your model). Before you buy you should read, and understand:

If you are just wanting a quasi-raid (or software raid) controller I would recommend either Promise or Highpoint. The compatibility right now is pretty poor, and restrictive... however if you can wait a new ataraid device-mapper is on the horizon. The program is called dmraid, and incorporates Carl-Hailfinger's raiddetect program. I have no idea how long it will be until these are stable, and even less idea of when they will be incoporated into an installer.

Good luck!

The SATA controllers from 3ware are for 64-bit PCI slots, so I do not if they can be used in 32-bit PCI slots.
