Hi,
I'm going to buy an Ipod at Xmas and would like to see Linux running on it.
I checked out www.ipodlinux.org .
After seeing their status I wanted to ask people who already tryed it if it is worthit.

A couple people I have talked to do, they say it's cool, I don't know how useful it actually is, but neat none the less.

Well, "cool" and "neat" are good.... but the thing has to work with linux on.
I looked at the current developments on the different versions of the Ipod ( first generation, second, third, minis, switch, etc... ).
The old models are well supported to some extent. But if you go on there are still some problems to be solved.
Ofcourse the stats that Ipodlinux.org give aren't very clear if you don't have the thing in your hands; That's why I want to ask people who already tried it to say if it is OK, meaning that it works great.

Now how about rockbox? Can you still use your Ipod (Nano) with iTunes on windows or do you simply need to accept the difference and adapt to the way rockbox wants you to use it?

ok, i tryed ipod linux and compared it to rockbox.
Rockbox is better
ipodlinux takes a long time to boot, and runs rather slow. And it also does not support video play back. (uncompressed avi is avaliable for some models)
get rockbox, it rocks

Is Rockbox recognized by iTunes or do you have to stick to a specific app inorder to put music on it?

rockbox is drag and drop- all you do is drag your music collection onto your ipod and you can play the music.
If you have the ipod firmware still installed you can use the id3 tag browser setting on rockbox and use the same files itunes puts on it
