Linux Multimedia
I want to get a nice workstation with multimedia capabilities - i.e. play DVD and use speakers and also burn CDs, stuff like that.
What's the best hardware, and also best disto?
I anticipate problems, being wise and having messed with Linux for years, so that's why I am asking, I want to hear from someone who has been there, done that.

There is no best distro just like there is no greatest number.
Just chosse an easy to use distro and install your favourite software
I think you will need xine, maplyer, k3b...

I am looking for a hardware platform that has been known and tested to be bug-free when doing multimedia. No need to find drivers, etc. I want it to be as much plug-and-play as possible. Not turn into an nightmare. (You know how that is)

What you probably need to do is look at the hardware compatibility list on this site and checkout what stuff works for other people and try to get that type of hardware.

Does this compatibility list include complete computers, or just parts? It would be great to get an assembled box without having to worry if individual components will work.
