Linux Mint, fractional scaling and 1440p Monitors
Good morning; I have a question which I am bringing here since there is a mod with an attitude over on the Mint forums, she gets snarky on posts I make which has caused me to leave their forum. Anyway here is the question:
I have ordered a Thelio Mira computer from System 76, I have two ASUS PB-277b monitors which are 2560x1440 in resolution. Will Mint, detect the resolution properly, show it correctly, and if needed does fractional scaling work correctly in Mint without making fonts and icons blur?
My concern is I have read that the "X" Window system which is used by Mint Linux does not deal with fractional scaling well causing the screen to be blurry. When the new computer arrives I plan on replacing POP!_OS with Mint which is my preferred distro. If Mint cannot be used, then Fedora Cinnamon will be my fallback.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

In general, it isn't the choice of distro as much as it is the choice of DE. Without reporting your choice of Mint DE, little to nothing can be suggested. Blurriness is a matter of taste, resolution, display size, DE, and how X's font system is configured. DE display management can thwart competent X configuration, as well as at least potentially fix suboptimal configuration. Whether these will all work together favorably for every user is simply unlikely. I find nothing objectionable in Mint's Mate or XFCE using my 2560x1440 along with 1920x1200 and 1680x1050, but my fonts are larger and DPI higher that typical users' settings.

Thanks, I use Cinnamon, and have done that for years. It just fits my use case.
